Jonny White & James Teej ‘Musique Noire remixes’ (inc Jamie Jones, Daso, Glimpse and Patrick Bateman mixes) No.19 Music No19004
Jonny White’s No19 label returns after the massive success of his recent ‘Dominatrix’ single with this stunning remix package of ‘Musique Noire’, a record that was originally released on Patrick Bateman’s Connect Four Records back in 2007.
Last year was an incredible period for Mr White, with Dj’s including Steve Bug, Jesse Rose, Efdemin, Damian Lazarus, Slam, Kenny Larkin, Satoshi Tomiie etc all getting behind his previous No19 singles. Alongside this his own DJ sets have seen him travelling the globe whilst further building his rock solid reputation in his home town of Toronto.
‘Musique Noire’ was Jonny White’s debut single and was co written and produced with the excellent James Teej who went on to release the awesome String Theory EP also on Connect Four. On this new No19 release we see the originally released Daso remix alongside updated versions from Jamie Jones, Glimpse and Patrick Bateman.
First out of the blocks is Jamie Jones’ ‘In and Out edit’. Jamie has become a rising production star over the last few years with a string of singles for Crosstown Rebels, Freak n Chic and Bpitch and this mix makes it easy to see why. Tight drums and percussion sit alongside the warm analogue bass line whilst the ebbing and flowing arrangement draws the listener in with a hypnotic insistence.
Next up we have Connaisseur artist Daso who reworks the parts into a brilliant driving tech house version that marries underground edginess with great melody.
Hot on the heels of the Daso mix comes the uber talented Glimpse, whose production talents have seen him signed up by the likes of Four Twenty and Carl Craig’s Planet E. Here he takes ‘Musique Noire’ on a deep and dubbed out journey, layering his own vocals into the mix and creating a version that is distinct and brilliant.
Finally we have an epic 10 minute plus mix from Danish DJ/Producer/Label owner Patrick Bateman. This is a slow building, spaced out piece of late night loveliness with subtle layers of percussion and FX lifting the mix in to the ether. Warm and trippy this is bound find fans across the board.
It seems that No19 have done it again; a great single, a superb remix package and a reputation that is certainly making them a major contender in 2009.
Jonny White and James Teej’s ‘Musique Noire remixes’ is released on No.19 Music in March 2008.
